Whistling/squeaking heater blower

My heater blower has started whistling/squeaking. It doesn't do it all the time, seems to only start once it's been on for a while, hasn't lost any puff and can be two-tonal.
Anyone else experienced this?
My guess is that there is something in there which is causing a gap for the air to whistle through but not sure.
Are they a bugger to get at?

There's quite an interesting method of lubricating the heater motor bearings without removing the dash over on The Samba. It envolves removing your front grille, and then drilling a hole in a certain place, which in turn allows you to shine a light to see the bearings, then spray a silicon spray onto your bearings. This has proved successful for many members, but it should be mentioned its only a temporary fix.
I will see if I can find the link..

But this method only lubricates one side of the bearing so is not a cure in every case and is not a long term solution.

Certainly worth a try but as said, factor in a replacement fan. If its the original in there, just imagine how far the brushes have worn down by now. Its not easy to get to but not rocket science either. Try the temporary fix and wait for moderate weather to do the job properly - thats my suggestion.

I did the oil fix and it worked for a while (about 6 months) then it seized and it was a dash out job. Which sounds scarry but is quit logical and I did it in about 8 hours.

My 1st car was a mk1 Fiesta and that used to have a really noisy fan, one day it went quite then filled the car with white smoke from every vent!
Mine is slightly noisy now, I hope I dont get the James bond smoke screen again!

A few do the WD40 in the vain hope that it will fix things cheaply but it rarely works for longer than a few weeks or months. If its original, its old. After 20 years they also begin to build up a certain amount of resistance and blow the fuse more often too. The solution is obvious really.

Mine did this squeaky thing, I when brought a new blower and was getting ready to remove the dash ,tools at my side when my two sons said they wanted a bike ride and fish and chips I thought this sounded a better idea (let's face it I was going to break something think of all those plastic clips and other stuff which hasn't moved for 27 years and i once spend a 3 hrs trying to get the steering wheel in my other camper )so bottled it pop front grill of drilled hole spray grease hey presto hot air and nice fish and chips .I know this is cheating and one day may well have to change blower but it didnt work and now it does took 20 mins good luck with what ever route you take
