Higher and wider? pros and cons

Bernd Jager is an advocate of higher/wider and i am a fan because of the aesthetic attraction.
i am generally of the opinion that you probably cant beat the stock set up when all things are considered, but that wouldnt stop me trying to tonka up both of my vans if/when finances allowed.
if you use wheel spacers to widen the track for example, will that adversly affect steering geometry leading to dodgy tire wear etc or is that all adjustable enough to have a wider track with no problems. funny wear on a £500 set of BFG's is no lauging matter.
can i have some thoughts and opinions please.

I like higher but to go wider enough to get the look you are after I think the mods are quite extensive. There is a DoKa with Landy wheel arches and really big wide wheels which looks the mutt's nuts but there are big bits of bodywork missing.
Anyone got a better pic?

i wasnt thinking quite that much, just a 30mm lift and 25mm spacers for example.
both of my 16s are taller than 14s but dont look it. its more of a proportion thing.
i always think that a 14" with 15" wheels looks tonkier than my 16s and that just aint fair.

yours is one of the 14s which looks better than mine
what size spacers do you have and what if any adjustments had to be made to steering geometry?

Is this high and wide enough? The slider just clears the wheel

I have a set of 17" VW Golf mark 4 alloys that I wanted fitting to a 2WD van. I contacted Machine 7 and they took a van measures up a Golf wheel they had and machined up all the spacers with the new bolt pattern and supplied all the bolts for a really good price. It was under £250 for the set inc if I remember correctly and that was for a one off custom job, I thought this was really good value.

You can do a 30mm spring lift and a 30mm body lift as far as I know. You will need to work around the suspension to get everything in the right place but its not rocket science. As for the 'wide' bit it should be simple to fit wider wheels and tyres. Spacers are not a good idea IMHO, they affect steering geometry and wheel bearings. I remember seeing that Doka at an SP event and I queeried its driveability. It does look cool though ...... Arctic Syncro !!!

"Body lift?"? Eh???
I asked the chap about that land rover wheeled beast.. apparently it doesnt go into top gear very often and the steering lock is not very good.. along with the drafts from the arch mods etc..

That picture was taken in Sandown carpark, Volksworld show. Although not by me. I remember seeing it before I got into Syncros. It's hard to forget something that looks that cool.
