Noisy radiator fan

Hi Guys,
We got stuck in traffic on the way up to Birmingham on Friday and the fan kicked in as the temperature rose towards half way. After a few times of kicking in I got a really nasty rattling noise. At first I thought it might be the dreaded buzzer, which I'm glad to say I haven't heard yet
. Anyway I pulled over to investigate. Checked water level. All fine.
Started on our way again and each time the fan kicked in we got the rattling noise. It sounded like something was obstructing the fan maybe. The fan still worked in that it lowered the temperature, but clearly something is wrong. We pulled over and waited (well slept comfortably
) till the traffic subsided and then headed on our way.
So, has anyone got any tips as to what it might be so I can look out for that when I start investigating?
Thanks,
Tim.
PS. I had no idea traffic jams could be so relaxing until I had a T25
