Wow what a difference

I had to replace the starter the other week. The old one finally gave up the ghost. I had always thought that the Syncro starter wasn't quite up to turning over the VR6 so considered getting a starter rewound for more torque. Never got around to it and was forced to put in a stock good one and what a difference. The stock one is certainly good enough. Starts a treat now. The original one has to have been goosed for the nearly 3 years of my ownership. Also seems to have solved the power drain I have been having.
I also added a 3rd earth strap to the gearbox so that may be helping as well.
I love it when the beast is running spot on.

I know what you mean Rob, I thought I had battery problems for a while until my starter went and I replaced it with a new one.
This is my latest bit of starter motor abuse that might take some beating

In the grand scheme of things that turned out to be the least of my problems

It all turned out for the better in the end though

just put a new starter on the new panel van as that was slow. huge difference even though the first new one was build faulty and didn`t work atall.

Seems to be a thing we forget about. I recently fitted a recon started and its made such a difference as well. I also had the alternator reconned at the same time

This thread is well timed for me. I had a joyful 10 mins under van today hammering away at the starter while the misses dutifully turned the ignition. It finally started (Thanks 8090 for the tip!). Just glad to get the van on the road again after it bricked itself several weeks ago. The earths were replaced and cleaned up last year.
It's still pretty quick to start but is now making noises so I guess its not long before it fails completely. Where does one buy good new or reconned units and the refurb kit? (Petrol 2.1). I feel the need to carry a spare now...

GSF do them if you have a local branch. I dont know if you have changed one before on a Petrol but they can be a bit of a pain and take a good few hours to do. The ones on a diesel take under an hour but you dont want to hear that

Yellow pages ..... look for a vehicle electrician type business or nip in to a decent motor factor and ask them if there is someone locally who can do it.
