Water Water everywhere

Thanks for the advice earlier chaps.
Now for Next pasrt of the puzzle.
When the engine is warm, the temp gauge remains at cold - doeas not move but there is water (hot) leaking from what looks like an water inlet manifold just above where the exhause meets the cylinder head.
Because it has a bit of a propensity to speay about a bit, the area around the cylinder head is also wet.
I would imagine that the first is a simple gasket problem.
How serious is the second?
