Wanting to add extra reverse light.

I use my bus as a daily drive & on evening pizza delivery drops. Half the time getting out of drives is just guess-work!
What is the neatest way of getting extra light?
Thinking to add them in the empty compartment above the existing reverse light. Anyone done it? Can you just up-rate bulbs?
If adding extra lamp on bumper, can I just wire into existing reverse power? No problem with wiring/fuse? What watt can I go to?
Also can you retro fit heaters to syncro mirrors?

Would make more sense to rig this up so you can clip in an additional reversing light just for the evening job and do it on a relay basis to cover an additional drain (same way you'd add spotlamps up front basically) - either that or use one of those big LED arrays (maintenance type torch comes to mind) that runs off the same circuit. If you uprate existing bulbs too much it generates heat and can melt lenses. The clip-on or temporary concept would keep you out of bother on MOTs. Most of the time you wouldn't need that much light.

Food for thought anyway.

Or use a reversing camera - they use IR at night. That coupled with the normal reversing light will do you nicely sir!

It wouldn't be wise to put in a larger wattage bulb, you may find that the lens will melt. I added two additional back-up lamps to my Westy, they are on the trailer hitch. Have also seen pics of a bumper mounted drive/fog lamp mounted beside the licence plate flap.

Thanks for replies. I hear what you are all saying about bulb, but they would only be on for short periods.

I have got a tow hitch, maybe just connect extra lights to that output. Hmmmmmm. :idea

I'm confused.

Do you want extra reverse lights?
Or extra lighting foto see better when reversing?

What's the delivery fuel surcharge for having a £4 pizza delivered by a 17mpg vehicle? :rollin :rollin

Now I'm confused......... Ain't that the same thing?

 I'm hoping they'll pay more for the 'old skool' vibe!

Everyone thinks I mad, but I've done the maths.... The T3 is the future! 8)
(for my circumstance ie, we don't do £4 pizza!! )

Reverse lights are an indication to other road users/pedestrians.

They do nothing much for lighting up the rear area where you are reversing into....imo

Moral of the the story is "Don't enter tight drives"

I fitted a 21 Watt spot on the bumper
A dedicated light thrower is better than an indicator lens

I fitted 21w halogen bulbs which make a big improvement enough to reverse around the inlaws unlit farmyard. But like oldie says an IR reversing camera is a good option, had to fit one to the car as manufactures now seem to think one reversing light is good enough.

You should see some of the drives! Although to be fair the roads aren't much better!

That's because the more bumps & scraps you have the better it is for them!!

No melting issues, Bigherb?

Like Kev has done, I fitted a spotlamp on the back bumper on the van I used to have.
But as I was in Australia, it wasn't for reversing out of tight driveways, it was to scare the killer kangaroos out of the way.

Any idea of part number for one of these?
What watt is the standard bulb?
