Hello there ... we have brought an english summer with us to germany, and it is now abundantly clear that the army bus has a leak somewhere upfront.

After the heavy rain I find wet RH footwell. I watched it just now in the rain, water dripping in the front RH corner behind the glovebox.

I am guessing it is the windscreen rubber ... like most else on the bus it is now 20 years old.

Has anyone any experience of windscreen leaks? I am imagining I will have to get the rubber replaced at a windscreen specialist.

A very common problem.No doubt the metal under the rubber has rotted.You could try some creeping crack as a temp repair.Click me

Yeah the corners will be rotted out. Just check the washer jets and wiper spindle seals first though. But it does sound like rot. Need to get a new decent seal as well. The windscreens come out and go in fairly easily. Where are you from?

If you cut old one rubber out, (5 mins with a stanley) - and trust me you'll need a new one for sure, screen comes out easily and if you buy proper seal (not JK ones) you can put it back in on your own with a rubber mallet and a length of braided washing line (as featured for 99p in your local pound shop - no expense spared) without much trouble. I managed single handed ok.

In my view you should not need a specialist if you use decent seal. An extra pair of hands always useful but not essential. However, if you install a cheap seal, it will bulge out more than a stock one (side by side they do look different) and you'll need all your mates to get the thing back in.

Although currently I am in the 'denial' phase of the leak underneath the dashboard, conveniently dripping on the fusebox. The links help me with the next phase: 'anger'.

Firstly, apologies for losing my thread with this thread, I had to fly off for work and did not get back to it.

Jimpainter, Mrs Joju, like the army bus, is from Germany, we spent much of the summer there, we come and go, though now we are based in Surbiton.

Covkid, thank you for your notes. We still have not replaced the screen, and another issue has brought me back to this thread:

The bus is sometimes not starting, like the battery is weak or sometimes dead. It charges up and will be fine for days. Then we come back again and no luck.

I saw Devonaid's message above, and I wonder if water in the fusebox, or somewhere is causing the battery to discharge. Does this sound plausible?

Sounds more like a battery reaching its autumn years or the radio is sapping it. Colder weather generally raises things to a head. See if the battery is reading 14v when the alternator kicks in. In my experience these buses need a really good, meaty battery to deliver whats needed but try the above anyway.

Thanks for that Covkid. I will get another battery, just wanted to be sure I didn't end up with a new battery and the same problem!

Establish if you have a battery drain though. I'm fairly sure this is covered in the WIKI.

Hi, am jumping on this, have leak to righthand side but have new schofields rubber and new front screen, with a good tight fit. Isn't always coming in when raining.. Have some new washer jets but they are slack in the holes reckon it's there, go em from JK .. Would another supplier be of a different tight fit?? Suggestions please
