How do I fix a baby carrier using a lap belt?

Hi there, we're new on here and this is the first time we have posted. We have just bought our first camper and are unsure how we are going to transport our 4 month old boy around. I don't much fancy sitting in the back constantly and letting him have all the fun upfront, but we cant attach a child seat using the lap belt. Is there an adjuster we can buy or is the only solution to attach 3 point seat belts? Any ideas?

Hi,

Lap belts and child seats don't work (after much research!)

I fitted seatbelt kit from Brickwerks as reccommneded above, and now the little one can sit in the back. Fitting the seatbelt is easy if you are reasonably competent at DIY (there is only one hole that needs drilling, and the rest is just bolt on assemmbly). If DIY is not your thing, then it would be worth getting someone to fit it for you for peace of mind. It fits on the side without the furniture to save dismantling the camping interior.

Because the mounts are some way back from the seat it is worth making sure the belt fitted is long enough - the brickwerks one just goes round my rather meaty Britax seat, but the belt wouldn't need to be much shorter to be useless.

Hope you get it sorted soon so you can all enjoy the van!

Cheers,

Alex

The maxi cosi easy base is the only option available - pick them up quite cheaply from ebay - the maxi cosi cabrio just fits straight in. We wouldnt be without one and have it in both our vehicles as its a quick release mechanism and makes life so much easier.

For after 9 months the britax eclipse is supposed to be ok with a lapbelt. We have two but only one has a tensioning system that makes it suitable for the lap belt. The others are said to be ok for a lap belt claim britax.

for years i used a britax seat fixed with a lap belt as the sticker on the bottom of the seat said "lap belt" , so thats what i did. went to buy another and realised there was a sticker on the side of the new one with "diagonal" on it!!!.........FCUK!!!. guess i was very lucky for 4 years. there are NO kiddie seats that only use a lap belt the nice man in halfords told us....GULP!!!!. but a company called QUICK FIT do great and easy kits for the T25 and supply fitting pics to help even with the rock n roll bed and westy cupboards....DO IT..

JustKampers do a 3 point belt, I have just fitted one, cheaper than BrickWerks.

BrickWerks seem to be out of stock - Was the JustKampers one easy enough to fit? These belts all look pretty standard to me, as long as I have some instructions! :?

Thanks!

Yes it was easy enough to fit, the van should have the mounting point for the upper fixing behind the rear upper panel. You need to drill or open out a hole for the inertia reel fitting. The belt can come out through the top of the lower trim if you don't want to cut a hole. The other two fixings are the same as for the lap strap.

The belt comes with reasonably clear fitting instructions for a T25

Total fitting time about 1/2 hour.

PM me if you get stuck.

Maybe there could be something in the Wiki about this. There are child seats available for lapbelts but the reason most major stockists don't carry them is because they don't trust them enough to risk a lawsuit. Fitting 3 points is always worth it for peace of mind.

Ta, sounds ok to me... I dont have any belts, so its the lock bit on the seat that I'm thinking might stump me - my water tank is directly under, full length, so I guess I just need to drill further back on the engine cover and attach some sort of fixing point the other side. 8)

Actually dont worry, I've just had a look and I can see two covering plastic covers where I thin I could put an anchor behind the water tank at a squeeze.

Thanks for all the advice, I think we'll buy the kit and possible get a vw place to fit it as we're still learners at the min. Do you have a link for the quick fit belts please?

I've just had more of a look at the option of an Isofix system. But these say they only fit into cars that are designed for this system. How does this work on a T25 as I'm assuming they were around long before Isofix. How do that attach to the seat? As if it requires lots of messing about I may as well go back to the original idea of 3 pointers.

Piont to note if your van started out as a panel van it wont have those fittings!
