Leak into cab

Fixed the leaking clutch cylinder a few months ago, now I have another leak, this time water. There are no sunroof, roof ariels etc, so it leaves the windsreen seal and the wipers as the main suspects. The windscreen seal looks good, but the wipers seem t have a gap that I could fit a thin blade behind. So the question is......................

Hi David, now I can only relate my tale. water in both step wells but mostly on drivers side. removed ariel and found megga hole.
Filled as appropriate and problem partially solved. Took windscreen out and lo and behold, as everyone else will tell you on here both bottom corners were shot. holed right through. plated and filled windscreen back in and now no leaks.
So that could be the worst case scenario. Hope it's something a lot less. Fingers crossed for ya.

I have rechecked and the seals/surround "look" fine, but there is definate play in the wiper spindle. (hopefully no rot ).
I have now found all the parts I need at VW Heritage, ie seals,spacers and new spindle caps. Just ordered them up now, as I still have a new wiper motor waiting to be fitted, might as well get it all done at once.

Windscreen seal can look good, if not deceptively perfect, but the metal horrific beneath. The irony perhaps is that one that has extensive rot hidden under that seal will if anything, only show minor bubbling of paint on the seam just below the seal where the front panel joins the two A pillars. The result is that its easy to dismiss it entirely because it looks fine on the surface and you end up sidetracked looking behind front grill, aerial and all sorts. Water can get in other places but 90% of the time its the windscreen lip and its getting in right at the top of the screen, working its way down underneath the rubber and just sitting there at the bottom until time takes its toll. None of this you can see.
If its never had any work done on the lip beneath seal, then chances are its slowly rotting out - most are by now. Longer its left, the more expensive it gets. Tell-tale sign is leaks on floor (under or over mat) and often after rain (vehicle doesn't even need to be moving) when you just pull off.

Every T25 I've seen has this issue - except those that have had the work done. Many assume the seal itself against the glass is letting in water as it puddles there, but in a way thats a smaller version of whats going on under the seal in exactly the same place and entirely hidden from view. Read above article and start examining that area in much more detail. Also forget any ideas about silicon sealant - it won't work. The sooner its fixed, the easier it is to do it generally. Middle and rear side windows too can suffer this fate and anyone who has done those will vouch for how much worse it can be once window has been removed.
