The guys at Just Kampers say I could (to cut costs, not corners I hope!) fit the older style system (J11610, bundle price £301)to my '87 van instead of the J11611 system (bundle price £520).
Has anyone out there done this? Any experience of doing this would be appreciated. Thanks

Fill in your profile as it helps to know where you are just in case you need help, or locality to various resources plus are you talking petrol or diesel?

Don't know what the affects of fitting an early system to a late van would be. None I suspect but then again why did VW change the design?

You have better a better options in my opinion for a new petrol exhaust that will save you ££££ in the long run.

Just buy the late exhaust parts you need piecemeal from brickwerks in stainless until the day comes when you have finally replaced your entire system hurrah!!. Hell if your near Holmfirth get Simon to fit the parts too as he needs the practice....I hear :lol:

it's madness IMO to change to an early mild steel exhaust from JK then need to replace it in 3/4 years

or other options

you can get the vwspeedshop stainless early-type exhaust for £425 (webshop only no fitting service)
http://www.vwspeedshop.com/product.php? ... t=0&page=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/Site/Transporter.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (£566.72 or £125 extra fitted based in macclesfied)

or

http://www.turbothomas.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who do stainless T3 exhausts (contact for price and fitting based near Bromsgrove)

or your local Longlife centre http://www.longlife.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm on a pretty tight budget so I'd be interested to know if anyone has fitted an early (pre 85/86 1.9 w/c system) to their post 85/86 van? If so any problems, etc. I'm seriously close to adding the £301 bundle deal from JK to basket. Cheers :ok

I have a 2.0 Aircooled brand new exhaust never fitted, as i am thinking about stainless I may sell it cheap. Worth a thought.

Am I correct in thinking that an air cooled silencer will fit straight onto a 1.9 watercooled DG early system then??

May be interested as looking for alternatives to selling a kidney :?

Yes, look :D

That header (the pipes bit) was designed for a 1.7-2.0 Aircooled which just happens to fit the early T25 system. You may have to mess with rear apron a smidgen (I did) but very happy with it. There are other headers around though apparently, as well as different exhausts. Need to hunt around, but they do exist.
