Sorry as I know there is a lot of information in the search results, but wasn't able to figure out the answer. I need to get a carnet application sent off ASAP so thought would ask

Was looking for the engine code this morning. Found a small plate with some numbers stamped into it. This must be it right? Well I thought so, but there is 4 rows of numbers

Is the engine code one of those? the whole thing?

I think that those are diesel pump or injector pump codes (or something like that from memory).

Engine number should be stamped onto the top of the block itself (or perhaps on a tag riveted to it if its a recon)

Want to tell us what engine it actually has?? air cooled, water cooled, petrol, diesel?? belived CC?

1980.. normally would mean 1.6 or 2L Aircooled (CT or CU) or 1.6 non turbo diesel (CS)

WIKI has where to find engine codes.. stamped on engine block....


Looking at your garage pick it should be Aircooled then??
This is a 2L CU pic... IIRC the 1.6 has the engine code in a similar place...
