I'd guess its based on something Japanese like the old taro / high lux, available with full time 4x4 and a rear diff lock.
also goes on about something called "leaf springs" !

Has a certain Toyota look about it but Id say most of it is pure VW. No doubt I stand to be corrected

looks some how cooler that the jap pickups. do like it but some how not as praticle as a t3 doka,

I know you all are excited , but i'm not looking forward to yet another gianormous pickup truck taking up all the parking spots etc.

Plus we already have this piece of "pooh" to contend with. It's a Chrysler re-badged as a VW.

I'd be surprised if the pickup was anything other than pure VW. Its taken them long enough to get it to market. Badge engineering another vehicle is a quick way to get a new model. The Taro in its day got VW into some new markets for little effort, but being as VW and Toyota are now arch rivals for the worlds biggest manufacturer I doubt they still help each other. As the VW brand is even more global now they don't need the help.
If it does share some engineering with another brand its probubly a brand that VW already surplies a lot of [TDI?] engines to so thats what VW gets in return.
