hello,

can anyone suggest how i can correct the following failures.

1) nearside head lamp aimed too low - does not seem to be dial to adjust like on my girlfriends car.

2) emmissions are way too high: limit 3.500, actual van 5.8007

- really surprised as the van has a 1 year old reconditioned engine and ss exhaust.

could it because it only used every two-three of weeks
also can i add something to petrol to reduce immitions.

Get your engine tuned up, by getting it on a gas analyzer

and you need to take it for a blow out before MOT to clear the carbon build up out your cylinders.

petrol contains detergents, so you will just waste your money with additives

I know on diesels, taxi drivers in coventry take their cabs for a thrash round the ringroad in 2nd just before the test, so I guess its the same principle. Get it tuned though. May just be a tadge rich. You could adjust that yourself though.

Headlights adjusted via the screws revealed when you take headlamp grill off. Find a garage wall and see if you can get close. If not, pay them to set it right.

re no.1 head light aiming is just done by removing front grill then using screws at the outside of the headlight to adjust unless i.m barking up the wrong tree???

Sometimes putting some fresh petrol in and more importantly getting the engine nice and warm for the retest will see you through the emissions!

i don't know what engines in what your driving but if it's injected check out my old post @ https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30000 i failed my test on emissions and every man and his dog helped me out with how to tweek things, the only thing i would say is if your not too sure or happy about tweeking things yourself, then get an expert in... alot of tuners turn their noses up at tuning old buses, but tell them that it's basically the same as a MK2 golf and they tend to be happier to look at it, i think they call it the Digijet system.
