Hi All, im new to the type 25 stuff, so having a few teething probs ie what the correct mixture of anti-freeze and water is for the winter/all year running of my van. one mate (VW man but of the t4 kind) has told me it should be 100% anti-freeze, but another mate (not into VW's but a mechanic) says it should be water/anti-freeze mix. I dont know if this makes any difference but its a 1984 devon conversion. Any help would be much appreciated. I would of put some photos of my camper on but cant for the life of me work out how to.

Anti freeze works best if it's mixed with water. 50:50 mix I believe. Do not mix anti freeze types ie, colours. Do a 'search', this subject has come up in the past.

If you read this: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/ethyl ... d_146.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you will find that over a certain ratio the efficacy of the mixture as a heat transfer medium falls off to a dangerous level. Or in plain english too much could make your engine boil over. I recently borrowed my mates coolant hydrometer.This has five different coloured floating disks graded in bouyancy so as to indicate degree of protection. The fifth disk simply indicated a danger. Not of freezing but of eneffective heat transfer and resulting overheating. I feel I should have one of these tools. So I don't quite understand the advice about using 100% antifreeze!

I agree that 50% water/antifreeze is correct for a wasserboxer engine (1.9/2.1 watercooled) approx 8 litres of A/freeze needed. VW G12 recommended
Also note* properly flush out old coolant with hose pipe until it runs clear 2-5minutes (old coolant becomes acidic)

Your mate should ask Santa for a Haynes manual and a hydrometer!
