Missing hose

Seen this on fleabay, and cant see the pipe from the expansion tank to top up tank. How would the cooling system work without this connected? Rick.

My top up tank had a crack in it (and therefore had no water in it) for 2 years, until I got another one at a show.
As long as the header tank remains full (i.e. no water usage) then it doesn't really matter.

it does matter , if it didnt then why did Mr Vw put it there , as the coolant get hot and expands it pushers a wee bit into the tank and then as it cools it sucks it back in .
