When i get Aiden to rebuild my gearbox should i go for a standard Subaru clutch or an uprated one??

standard one imho, leave some potential slip in the system, if you put in a racing clutch and fit slick tyres the box won't last long

Aidan's right. Much easier and cheaper to replace a clutch then a tranny.

Depends what you do to the engine, my new geniune standard tdi clutch lasted 3 days.

It do not build them to last i build them to go, pushing anything 3 times past what bhp it was designed for is going to mean a short life, i accept that when i make them, if i wanted them to last i would stick with sub 100bhp and travel like a snail.

Andy. Why not put a 2.5 Subaru quad cam in and save your time and expense? Or does it have to be a Diesel?

Take a stock engine and push it at or near full bhp rating and see how long it lasts Have seen boy racers wear out an engine in 20k or less quite easily.

I think the point is being lost here, have as much power as you want. If your clutch goes it's ok because you wanted the power. I'm sorry but i'm a petrol head. If you want a derv,fine the more powerful the better. If you want petrol, fine.

When we done my conversion i think we replaced the clutch disc not the complete clutch. My clutch burnt out towing a friend out of mud and i would do it again.

How many times did engine die while pulling friend out? I would think the scooby would have enough torque to do it without needing to rev up much.

The engine didn't die its still running a treat! The fact of the matter is i should have replaced the complete clutch kit when the conversion was done. Who knows how old or worn it was.
Any way it is all sorted now Aiden Talbot Gear box and RJES EJ25 clutch kit. I will check the drive shafts and CV's and it will nearly be a new bus All i have to do now is sort the bodywork Now wheres that welder?

Sorry, I mean stall engine by letting clutch out at low rpm vs engine at high rpm and slipping clutch. I remember when you parked after the pull. Bottom line you got our friend out. And now you are putting a stronger clutch in with new gearbox. Job done. Did you find someone at reasonable expense to put it in?
