Painting underway - door /front wing trim removal question

Hi,
Well the rubbing down and finding holes and making good is going well. At present I am only doing the front of the van front the doors forward.
Question - In between the windscreen and the door there is a seam which has a black trim attached. There is a bit of rust near the edges and whilst I could just mask off and clean as best I can it would be easier to remove. I have had a look and I can't deceide it it is metal or plastic and also hwo it is attached, clrimped on, or glued, or just interferance.
I don't wont to break it, any ideas?
Cheers
Martyn

I think it's just a piece of gutter trim moulded into shape and just pushes on

Mine's plastic, and breaks easily!

hmmmmm... Breaks easily?
I am not sure if I can a replacement and would rather not have to buy a new one.
Has anyone sucessfully removed one?

Just be careful.
Surely these bits are just lengths of standard gutter trim bent into shape using a bit of heat?

Does it really matter that much - if you don't take it off you'll never know what the state is under there and compromise on the job?
Surely a bit of trim can be sorted at a later stage - get down to the nitty gritty, or is it just a blow-over, that'll need re-doing in 2 years time when the bubbles start again...
get it off, screech a rotary twist-knot brush up and down the seam to rip out what most of us can guarantee is the lurking death rot, anti-rust prime deeply and finish. If seam has 'swollen', a-r treat with it opened out and then can squueze it back together a bit before finishing

Fair point, it just looked a bit like an unobtainable replacement..!
It will be a decent job, it's toooooo much trouble to just do a quick cover up!

Just rang a very shouty man at the van centre in the trafford centre and he said those parts are now obselete
Gowesty do an alternative but obviously they are shipped from california
http://www.gowesty.com/Merchant2/mercha ... t-moldings
I'm sure just a normal length of gutter trim cut to size would suffice after all that's all the gowesty alternative is

Thanks guys,
Well handy info.
I'll look into a couple of replacements and then tear them off
It's always a bit of dilema to know when to stop, I could have an airfix kit of a van if I keep taking things off
Cheers,
Martyn

That's only for one side, they don't do the other side for some reason (or have none left)
