What grade of oil have you used ?

Synthetic oils are not suited to these older motors.(thats if you have used that stuff)

Yes I had a touch of that especially towing in rather hot weather. In the end I fitted an oil cooler which did the trick. But I can still get the light to come on if I slow the engine up by dragging the clutch on tickover. I believe there are electronics in the circuit which transform a momentary glitch into a significant event. Frightens the life out of me! I guess an oil pressure guage would be nice if you could stand the stress when in heavy traffic!

and was it a genuine filter, accept no substitutes MAN or twice the price from the dealer in a nice VW cardboard box; but the MAN green and yellow box is perfectly acceptable in my view :D
