Right got new oil and filter for the van and want to do an oil change. First time on a t25 for me. Whats the procedure??

Hmm I was thinking more of a in depth procedure. Is it just a case of undoing and oil plug/nut under the van and draining it?? Is there anything that needs cleaning before putting it back?? Im assuming there is no oil strainer like a type 2??

It would be handy to know what engine you have--assuming its a 1.9 petrol-dont start anything until you have new copper washer for your sump plug-then warm up engine, undo bolt on bottom of sump with 13mm socket. drain oil, then remove oil filter-you may need a removal strap thingy, spread new oil on new filter gasket screw in-replace sump plug with new copper washer, be carefull ally thread in sump so firmly but dont go mad--refill with about 4.75 litres of oil --warm up, allow to cool then check oil, topup if needs,

Thats about it.
A couple of other things....
Pull out the filler pipe neck behind the number plate...cut down an old 2litre lemonade bottle or similar to use as a funnel.
warm engine first before draining (runs out easier)
Oil filter hand tight (put a smear of oil on the rubber seal first)
Drain until it drips
New copper seal on sump bung
Put just 4.5 litres in at first, run engine for 15 seconds or so, stop, let it settle for 30 seconds, check level and top up as necessary (level ground)
Fill to upper mark on dipstick

P.s. the torque setting for tightening-up the sump plug on a 1.9dg engine is 25Nm (18 lbft)

I always fill the oil filter with fresh oil before fitting.. include this volume you fill with and only put 4.5 L in.. (use a 15w40) and run the engine for a few minutes after and check level... do not be tempted to overfill they dont like it...

me too and put a film of oil around the filter seal before fitting, also dont me tempted to over tighten the filter or nut

Yeah filter no more than hand tight, well less really.. does not need to be wrung up...

Yeah sump plugs are bad.. use a 6 wall drive socket to remove (doesnt knacker the flats.. and I usually use eithe 1/4" drive t bar and socket or a ring spanner to do up. NOT a 1/2" drive set as the leverage you can get is far too much... just nip it up... the "give" in the copper washer is enough to hold it...

Sorry to have to disagree with you toomanytoys but it's a bit more than a nip and whilst I agree that you don't want to over tighten and strip the bung you don't want it coming undone and dumping the oil either.
18lb/ft or 25 newton metres if you have a 3/8 torque wrench, otherwise pretty tight with a standard 13mm spanner (ring end) 1/4 drive is not really man enough... honest, these copper washers need to collapse a little in order to seal.

I'm just about to change the oil on our 1.9 petrol van this week, does anyone know what size the copper sump plug seal is?

18ftlbs is nothing... ok a good nip......

Maybe I have a bit of an advantage as I have large hands, but I still stand by the 13mm ring/combination spanner method... (I use an "Elora" one not a £1 shop special)
I have used it for the last 8 years on my T25's and you should see tha amount of oil changes thats been done.. (I have done a lot of miles, 15k a year in the syncro and 20-30k a year in the 'velle) never lost a sump plug yet...

Internal diameter = 14mm
