temp gauge

Hi all. does the coolant warning light also warn of over heating. My temp gauge isn't working, is this easy to fix or can i rely on warning light. 1986, 1915, wc transporter

The coolant warning light does warn of over heating IIRC but I far as I know it will only work if the sender and wiring are OK.

The other function of the light is low coolant level and this is triggered by a separate circuit and switch.

Personally I would sort out the temperature gauge, could save a lot of grief and lolly in the long run. Lots of threads on the subject on this forum.
Basically faults are... gauge itself........ wiring (specially at the multi pin plug connecting to the flexy printed circuit on the dash instruments),....... and the sender, on the thermostat housing.

Light working ok flashing on ignition then stays off will get wiring checked
