1.9td manifold inlet

Quick question-
having installed and run up my 1.9td engine Im left with a small pipe that comes off the intake on top of the inlet manifold. This is obviously a breather of some sort but im a bit perplexed as to where I should stick it..........easy now!
the pipe is obviously "charged" by the turbo so Ive doubled it back and wrapped a cable tie around it for now. Any idea where it goes?
thanks in advance

it goes to the top of the injector pump . IIRC is provides 'positive pressure' to top of diaphragm.( and if fitted with a 1.6 pin provides more fuel as pressure increases)

Thanks Elvis

I've turbo'd a 1Y (n/a) engine and used the pump from that engine. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to plug the pipe into on the pump.....any ideas?
thanks

getting out of me depth now as not a mechanic.
applying a bit of common i would say to but a small bolt in the end and use a small jubilee clip to secure it - leave it open and you will lose pressure that is meant for the engine - will be acting like a bleed valve costing you pressure.
how does it run ? did you have a shuftie at forums ? try www.vwdiesel.net - look at bottom half of front page of forum ( its canadian so top half is in french!) and surf the 'IDI engine' section. they might advise you on best pump etc

how does that work, I didn't think you could do that. :?:

all those 'in the know' reckon its basically an AAZ without a turbo ie oil squirters under pistons , pistons and valves made out of composite metal to stand heat/increased forces applied etc .
obviously has a non turbo pump , the line is used to provide 'signal' to alter fuelling under incresed positive manifold pressure in a 1.6.
the shape of the AAZ aneroid pin means the fuelling is altered helluva lot less on a 1.9 under boost so maybe a 1.9 na pump wouldnt make too much difference.
this all could be a crock of "pooh" though but it is how i understand it!

Louey- according to those more in the know than I on this forum the 1Y is basically the same as the AAZ except the 1Y has smaller diameter gudgeon pins.....yes you can do it seems to run fine so far.

Elvis- have doubled the pipe back on itself and applied a cable tie (tight) to stop pressure escaping engines running fine and pulls much better than my other syncro which has a 1.9DG fitted.....mind you the added weight of the camper conversion would probably play a part in it.
Thanks for the link by the way.

do you have instructions?? At this exact moment in time I should be concentrating on assignments, but sticking a turbo on my 1Y would be step forward.

Piccies would help too, not in a big hurry though :D

Louey- I followed the instructions from the brickyard forum in converting a 1.6td to 1.9td (aaz). The only extra components I needed was an AAZ inlet manifold as the port shape on the 1.6td is slightly different and a longer turbo oil return pipe. Some sound advice on 80-90 forum came in handy too. If you have the 1.6td exhaust manifold, sump and oil pick up pipe the jobs quite straight forward.
