Of starter motors and things

Anyone like a little story?
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
And you thought you had a stressful day?
Well as Network Manager, managing a network of around 126 computers and peripherals who wants a total campus wide email failure?
Add to that a certain T25 1.9 TD starter motor that decided to take a little holiday without asking me!
One moment it was fine next no starter - help!
Determined it was said starter motor by connecting my digital multimeter up to the solenoid electrical feed and dangling the meter over the back seat so I could see it when I turned the key 12+ Volts no problem.
I rang the local VW dealers parts dept who kindly informed me that for £225 and a couple of days wait I could have a new one. (the £25 being a surcharge because the starter was a re-manufactured unit in Germany and had no original VW part number on it so it didn't count for exchange purposes!!) aagh.
But, the parts man turned out to be a very nice man indeed when he referred me to a local auto electrician (the only one between Aberdeen and Inverness)
Although he had work into the new year he offered to take a look at it for me. A kind friend gave me a lift into Elgin (I even suffered going round Tesco with her whilst I waited for the motor to be fixed)
The upshot being that I had it fixed and back in my grubby little mitts the same day for just £47!
So its up early in the morning to put it back in.
And what better place for my camper to breakdown but on my own drive!
Fixed the email problem as well!
So there is God after all!
Andy
