Soft clutch / difficult gears Query

Hiya,

We're currently in France on hols in our van - and thank god for free internet access! :D

Whilst driving, I've noticed the clutch getting 'soft' and then I struggle to get into gear (any gear). After driving only in 4th, we pulled over, rattled the gear stick, pressed the clutch a few times and the problem seemed to clear. The van seems fine now, but does anyone have any idea what the problem may have been in case we get a recurrence as we still have to get home!!

Van is a 1984 1.9 with 4 speed gearbox.

Thanks!!
Phil

Sounds like air in the clutch circuit.. or poss a leak o the slave or master cyl..
check the brake fluid levels in the res under the dash cover..
Might be worth bleeding the clutch if you have an 8mm spanner with you..

Where abouts are you in France? May be able to point you in the direction of assistance..

This very thing happened to me whilst in france , i bled the clucth slave cylinder and all was good , for about 1k and then i had to bled it again , i thought it was linked to the rear brake cylinder leaking but turned out to be the master cylinder that showed its self at RTTH's last weekend( fluid all in the foot well)
mine didnt show any signs of fluid loss before the foot well incident ,
I had to bite the bullet on the bled nipple cos it was close to death , tried a 7mm spanner which just span on the nipple , finished up using a mini set of stiltons .
hope this helps
