Diesel VS LPG

OK, I'm probably boring people off their perches here with my endless questions, but just one more for now! I'm looking for my first van and I'm thinking of a pop-top westy. What I'd like to know from you guys is would you buy a 1.9 petrol and convert it to LPG or 1.6 diesel (or TD)?
It seems like the MPG is about the same, and the petrol van would cost about £900 to convert but be about £500 cheaper to buy.
Performance isn't an issue at all, I have another car for getting us around the place quickly. This is going to be a holiday vehicle. As they say, half the fun's in the journey (without calling the RAC).
Any comments?
Cheers
