Ignition coil options?

Hi all,

I have a late van with a 1.9DG and looking to replace my coil. Brickwerks has been out of stock for what seems like over a year now .
A friend has told me I can use any coil in the van, as long as its for an electronic ignition and not for points and condenser.
is this true?

if so, anyone have a recommendation of what brand to look at? he's recommended Lucas or Petronix as hes used them in his old cars.

There's green or grey sticker, early and late terminals. 4 variants in total.
The coils have negligable differences so can be considered interchangeable,
I'd always go with the later pin type terminals which does mean a new dissy cap and plug leads but they grip better than the early DIN ones.
Finally always use single electrode spark plugs.

i saw there was the green or grey sticker ones for my late van, but i'm lead to believe I can just use any coil as long as it has the correct fitting. so it doesn't have to be T25 specific?

As long as the secondary resistance readings are about the same, I'd say it makes no odds. Green label is 2.4 to 3.5k Ohm, Grey 6.9-8.5k Ohm.

There is/was probably a specific plug of each type of coil.

I have green label and single electrode plugs.

What are the downsides of the triple electrode plugs please ?  I don't recall what I have in now but I definitely had them at some point.
