Hello everyone,

I'm a new owner of a 1985 VW T25 and am looking for advice on what type of engine oil to use for my car. I looked through the owner's manual, but also wanted to get recommendations from those who have direct experience with this model one of my friends suggested me to use a performance 10W-40 but i'm not sure if it's a good oil for my car engine, i'm not going to use it without consulting you first. I want to make sure of using the engine oil that best suits its needs so if you have a 1985 VW T25 or have knowledge of the types of engine oil that are compatible with this model, I would appreciate any suggestions or advice you may have to offer. I want to make sure I take care of my car in the best way possible, and choosing the right motor oil is an important step in that process.
Thank you in advance for your help and advice. I look forward to reading your responses and making an informed decision on choosing engine oil for my VW T25.

Ahh, the old what oil question :)

You did not mention what engine you have, but these old engines dies not really need any special oils from nowadays supply.
Your best option is mineral 15w40, but semi syntetic 10W40 can also be good especially on colder climates.

We ideally need to know which engine (put this in your signature). Since the top end rebuild i have only used Valvoline VR1 20/50 mineral oil in my DG.  Factor in an oil change every 6 months irrespective of mileage:

This post doesn't read right to me. I fully expect a link to appear.

Freudian slip.

Be careful, changing oil is often the first step on the road to a life of spannering.

What amazes me is that people respond to these weird first posts as though they were genuine. They are quite easy to spot.
I think that this one is in response to an earlier post here:

I only saw the post without the link.
The wording was suspicious, but I am not a native speaker either so who knows. It could have been legit.

You’ve got to remember that a lot of people, myself included, join this forum before they actually buy a van. It was a few weeks after purchasing before I knew what oil to use, or where the screen wash filler is.

I think we need some sort of captcha. As I'm certain these Russian posts are bots.
