84 1.6D stripped head for injector

You could have ground the front off with an off hand grinder, it would take a while, just keep dipping it in water to keep it cool. Small taps are easy to do that way. A tap that size would be best done using a slitting wheel on a surface grinder.

So i picked up the cut down tap, the guy said it was a bit of a pain to cut but he managed. He used some circular disc cutter with water cooling. I retapped the hole fitted the new seal then torqued down the injector .It was still chuffing a little with the injector at 50 ftlb but nipped it a touch tighter and its now sealed. If it ever happens again i think it would be quicker to change the head.

Give yourself a  big pat on your back. I bet you would do it much quicker if you ever had to do another one . With the cost of a new cylinder head,gaskets ,stretch bolts flame traps and  antifreeze etc you must have saved yourself about £1000.

It probably wouldn’t be , it always leads to more jobs and expense
