Water in tailgate

Post by triggermala »

I have water getting into my tailgate and sitting in the bott of it, it drains out of the drain holes in the corners when I lift it up. Apart from the usual suspect odd rusty areas around the window seal which I have done my best to try and prevent it getting any worse until I can get it cut out is there anywhere else I need to check which could cause this. I have also noticed a couple of splits in the rubber tailgate surround seal.

Hello,

May I suggest you look at the clip-on plastic badges on the tailgate. I had this problem, removed the badges and filled.

Perhaps silicone mastic would give the same result...
Cordialement,

Are there any grommets in the side of the panel, for rear wash wipes etc? Are they intact, or if you do have a rear wash system could this be leaking?

I sympathise with you, Triggermala. I have exactly the same problem and assumed it was the window seals. I will check all the seals and badges, as Sarran suggests, when I get the van back from the Garage (Failed CT (MOT)).

Check this grommet, and also look for a build up of gunk/moss blocking the free flow of water where the hinges attach.

Are these grommets supposed to be in there as it looks like mine are missing which let's out any water when I lift up the tailgate.

The grommets are where the wash wipe wiring would have passed through on posher models. Heated screens etc.

Anyone know where to get these grommets?
