CVJ Suppliers?

Hi,

Managed to completely destroy an inner and outer CVJ at the weekend.

So ive been looking through past threads about where to get the joints from. Found a link to interparts, which i checked, but they dont seem to have the outers available for Diff locking models? (or am i missing something http://www.partsinabox.co.uk/acatalog/O ... 11270.html) and from the jist of the thread i gather that the GKN parts would be the better ones to go for?

So, Question 1 - does anyone have a link to somewhere that supplies the GKN parts?

Question 2 - Am i correct in thinking that the inner CVJ is the same as the rear ones, and available from GSF etc?

Yeah, thats where i got this link from http://www.partsinabox.co.uk/acatalog/O ... 11270.html
For the interparts ones.

But i can only find a link and part number for the GKN Boot kit, rather than the the whole CVJ assembly.

And, am i right in thinking that the part i need is listed as unavailable from the parts in a box link? Or is that a 16" part (it says something about 16" in the notes for item...

Out of the 6 I just ordered from GKN 3 turned up damaged.
I have had the last ones they had, so lets home they get replenished.
I hope to have spares on the shelf soon.
The GKN ones are a direct replacement from the ones from VW but a tad cheaper.
The GKN ones come as a complete kit with uber tough CV boot, grease, nut, clips etc..
The GKN ones DO have the extra groove.
The GKN ones do have the metal sleeve and rubber seal.

'Suppose it depends on what you intend to use your syncro for if you think it's worth spending the extra and getting either the VW ones or the GKN ones, myself personally i would prefer to have the right thing as they have lasted X amount of years as they are..

This is why i'm after the GKN ones.

My van tends to get VERY mucky, quite regularly. I just dont think that putting the cvj's back without the seals is worth the effort.

I know the seals are available via the link in the wiki for adding to the interparts units, but Parts-in-a-box seem not to have any... :(

You got any going spare Simon....?

So,

Can anyone help with a supplier....?

Of either type?

To be honest, at the moment i'll just about take anything. Really need to get my van back on the road.......a few things are depending on it....

two genuine outer seals left here, and also plenty of the alternative ones.

I think i might be discovering that the remaining stock from interparts has disappeared into the hands of a certain individual.....

And since getting a quote from VW of £217 as i dont have an exchange unit, im swaying towards a 2nd hand unit till i can afford to get some new ones.

I dont know, blinkin Syncro has swallowed my life

Where is your old cv? If you put it in the box covered in cv grease there is no way they will check it. When i send back exchange bits i pick up the nearest thing that looks right, do it everyday and have never been caught. The majority of vw parts advisors are totally brain dead, they even seem to mess up when i give them the part numbers.

The one i use at work tells me they sell plenty of heavy duty 14" front shockers and would rather leave them on the shelf than sell them to me for a reasonable price, it did'nt take long before i got an extra 10% discount and now syncroandy has them.

I havn't got one i can exchange...
As its in about 40 pieces.

The inner and outer have literally torn the cages to pieces, and seems like they then forced the bearings out of the joints.....carnage insued.

The damage was to the extent that i managed to get the drive shaft out without having to undo anything. :?

But the good news is that i should be back in business soonish.
Futbus has come to the rescue with some real clean looking 2nd hand units, with an almost brand new CV boot for the outer CVJ.
Just some grease to find, and a steep learning curve to negotiate on diff jiggery, and drive shaft assembly replacement pokery.

Cheers Futbus!! :D Thanks again Like i said, i'll be in touch throughout the process im sure!

whats the score with these:

Heavy Duty CV joint 14" 111.06 € 008 004
This CV joint allows a bigger angle of 23° (original = 17°) and can cope with much more power. Essential for high Syncros and powerful engines, fits 14" Syncros rear inner and outer and front inner. Outer front can cope with much more than 17° originally. Forget about the old heigth limits and get something, that can cope with heavy offroading! Comes with bolts, CV boot, grease etc.

Heavy Duty CV joint 16" coming soon 008 004a

Details like before, but for 16"
