Hi,

I have just spent a frustrating few hours attempting to fit the crossover pipe to the top Of my tank. The previous owners used garden hose on this pipe so I was replacing.

But the pipe (with the white pieces) that I bought doesn't seem to reach both the holes. Has anybody had this before? It seems as though there is only one size (unless synchro) but it just won't reach. Should it be above or below the accelerator cable? Does it then go straight across or should it go through anything?

Please help me out as I am losing patience with it and want to use it over Xmas.

I don't remember having any issues when I did it, but yes, the pipe goes over something ( but I can't recall exactly what )

Yeh the 'balance pipe'/'crossover pipe' which goes from one side of the tank to the other. It seems as though there must be a kink in that hose so I wonder if I have put it the wrong way around. Do you reckon I could cut the pipe and put in a connector to extend the pipe? It is literally 2cm too short. Any idea what size it is? (8mm?)

Do you definitely have it in the right hole?
There are two quite close on the side that the filler neck goes into.

One for the crossover pipe, the other for breather on the filler neck...
I think they are about 2cm appart.
( Check second pic on the link to show orientation of pipe and which side the `kink` is supposed to be. )

Where did you buy it from?

Well I am putting it in the holes the PO had used but I suppose he may have used the wrong ones. VW heritage I think but over a year ago now, so no real going back.

It would be weird if it were too short, but stranger things have happened.
I think that crossover should pass over coolant pipes too.

I assume the plastic ports that are going into your tank look like these as well, and previous owner hasn't swapped for something else?

Just noticed your in Bristol as well, one of the 100s of T25s around this city.

I don't remember mine kinking like that. Might just have to remove it again and check it out. Defo in the correct holes though.

Brickwerks sell the pipes with plastic connectors too.
They seem out of stock, but email them - they always reply and only sell quality stuff.

I'm the south side - what about you?

As Smiffo says they are handed. It also sits above the throttle, handbrake cables, gear selector air or water pipes.
Also state what year and engine you have got in makes a lot of difference between air and water cooled and years.

Ahh that's useful I've got a 2.0 Aircooled 1981. Is yours AC?

Thanks for that. I presume that I need to sort of pass it through from one side to the other in order to get it above that bit.

It's the airbox for the heating system that diverts hot air to the rear heater vents.

I see. I'm not sure that I have one of those. No heating in the rear and don't recognise that part. Essentillay itlooks as though the balance pipe runs across the top of anything else.

Hopefully have a crack at it on Friday.
