Looking for a bit of info before I change the brake servo can someone just confirm how to test the servo.The way I test it is to put my foot on the brake pedal then start the van and if the pedal drops a bit the servo is working if the pedal doesn't move then the servo has gone.If so is there another way to confirm this as the brake pedal is very hard to press.

Check no kinks in the vacuum hose too. Mine (not original T25 engine) has a bit of rubber vacuum hose coming from the pump and non return valve about 8" long. This then bends round to connect to the rigid hose coming out of the bulkhead. The rubber hose sometimes collapses at the bend and I get a hard pedal for the first couple of stops. If I straighten the collapsed bit out again it will be fines for months.

You could also check that the suck is reaching the booster. Prise out the plastic connector from the front of the servo, it just pops out of the rubber grommet, and put your finger over the end of the pipe. Start the engine and you should feel suction on your finger. Stop the engine and your finger should stay sucked to the pipe if your one way valve is working ok.
If the suction is ok, then the method you mentioned on you first post is exactly correct. Before you start the engine press the pedal a few times to get rid of any residual vacuum. Then press it with medium foot pressure. When you start the engine the pedal should slowly fall away under your foot with the same pressure applied.
Often the master cylinder can leak brake fluid into the internals of the brake booster destroying it eventually. If you need to change your booster you could consider fitting a bigger bmw unit.

Cheers for the replys peeps in work till Tuesday so all going well I will be on it on Wednesday will report back my findings by the way boatbuilder if it is the servo which model Bmw fits mine.

Pretty much any from the BMW E30 platform. As long as the part number begins with 34.33-1157 it will fit. I got a second hand one for 40 pounds

If I could just clone myself so that one of me could work on the van and the other could fix the other cars / paint the house / play with kids / go to work!!

Hi peeps bit embarrassed to admit this but when I change the engine I notice that the non return pipe had a split in it so when I replaced it I must of put the non return value in the wrong way anyway with all that said thanks for all your suggestions
