Gear levers and missing springs

Hi, gear lever snapped and we've lost a small Spring which apparently sits inside a larger Spring held in place by a ball bearing - issue is no one seems to stock them, checked brickworks, jk etc. What solutions have people found to this issue - desperate to get to Busfest at weekend!! So would be so grateful for any help or advice!

I'm pretty familiar with gear levers and shift rods. To my knowledge theres only one major spring and thats on the shaft, held by a collet and grubscrew:

The other ones is inside the plastic ball. No ball bearing.

covkid thank you. The garage have shown us the picture from the wiki page
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=97657. Towards bottom it's a small Spring at bottom of lever before forks. Issue is van was towed to only garage nearby and they are not specialists so worried we are waiting for a part we don't need. I am sorry I am not a whizz at using this forum but I really really appreciate your help

This a 5-speed then? The detent spring. Hmmm. Thats going to be second hand unless one of the VW vintage sites has one and 5-speed parts are much harder to find than 4-speed.

Yes it is a 5 speed, originally 1.6TD now 1.9aaz sorry should have said. Is it driveable without it? We have s brand new lever and linkage has been overhauled this is the last thing

Driveable without yes - you'll just have to feel your way. Bit like the aluminium guides at the bottom. You can drive without those too - just not as precise.

This is a picture of what the 5 speed is made up of, is this the spring you're after (bottom one)?
I remember seeing a post ages ago where someone was trying to source one.

Thats the one (small spring). Brickwerks do SOME of these parts so try asking them. You COULD get home without it I guess. It'd just be clonky side to side. Its the resistance for reverse on a 5 speed. Could be tricky - never tried to drive without one

I've found the original thread, it was Smiffo who got one from Lee Springs:

The dimensions are there too.

Just need a suitably sized ball bearing then

Looks close to those used on bicycles although couldn't swear to it.
Possibility:

Yeah, it'd be guesswork trying to find the 2nd/3rd plane.
I'd actually like to try driving without the detent as getting across to 1st never feels nice.
