I don't know but I'm interested
were you running the DJ on a DG distributor before then?

It can't work with a Pierburg, on an injection to the intake air distributor.

I see.
so is the ignition curve altered with the retard connected to the intake air distributor?

I read that LPG likes a different ignition curve to petrol, I just wondered if the retard vacuum altered the curve and could I use it

No

you could run a vac pipe to the cab and try sucking on it at various engine loads to see, after a while you might find while racing the beemer off the lights a good hard suck or a blow means you win

I did try sucking while it was advancing but nothing happened
So my final overhaul Item is the Coil.
If I were to buy a new coil, I wondered what I should get.
Formally a DG ('86) with DG distributor and a DIN coil.
Now a DJ (carbed) with DJ distributor, so what coil is suitable?

As far as I know grey or green makes no difference, ignition unit is the same, it's just that the grey ( I think) gives higher voltages for longer life plug changes.
So have you run the DJ with carb on a DG dizzy, I'm interested to know if it's any different to a DJ dizzy with carb?

No I have never run the DJ with a DG distributor.
I have what I think is an early coil fitted, there's not much difference with the later pin type. (only in the primary winding resistance). I might just change that.
Still trying to pin down the little flat spot/falter at around 2500 rpm.
happens on gas and petrol
