Starter Rewiring - Crimp Tools

I am planning to rewire from my battery to the starter as outline in covkids great wiki post here :https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/VW ... ain_cables

I dont have a good crimper other than a basic one I use with speaker cable terminals etc and so have been looking at a good value crimper that will be able to handle the 25mm2 / 16mm2 terminals and also any other terminals I will need doing as I start my leisure system install.

Originally I found this tool: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Timbertech-Cri ... mping+tool but when I asked if it could handle the 25mm2 cable users said no. I also am unsure if it can generate the force needed?

I have now found this reasonably priced tool: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01 ... BQ1J1LFE7R however I wondered if this would be any use for the smaller connection of a leisure wiring install or only for the battery cables?

Can anyone advice on what tool is best for the battery terminals and also possible the 8/6mm2 cables used throughout a leisure system?

Cheers

It says 4 to 70mm dies so it should be ok for your 6mm cables

It was more the shape of the crimp I was not sure about as I guess I would be using more the fork style terminals once I get to the fuse box etc?

Covkid what did you use to secure the distribution blocks to the van?

Also is there an easy way to work out the grommet sizes for the cables if I want to drill through the floor.

Cheers

I am not in the country and ordering all the boys for the job online and not sure what grommets to get.

The cable seller lists the mm2 size but not actual diameter so was curious if they are all generally standard for the different AWGs.

Just make the correct size hole in a blind grommet.

The distribution blocks I used (and highly recommend) are fixed with a self tapper. You sometimes need to use the word 'marine' when searching for them on ebay etc. There are many types of cable termination blocks but that was the only type I found that would both carry the amps involved as well as several cables, securely. I haven't found a better or easier type anyway. Under the dash, you could leave that one unsecured if you prefered as once the lid is on, its insulated and its often more convenient to get at as you can pull it down for access. That said, you may find a mounting point that suits you.
