Can anyone tell me what size socket I need for the castle nut on rear drum of my '83 van? Is it 45 or 46 MM ?

Great link, thanks sambus 2012. How on earth do I get 350 lb/ft torque on this thing? Is that necessary?

Drum should come off fine without touching that nut. You might need to back off the adjusters through the inspection hole in the backplate and maybe give a tap with a hammer to break any rust seal if they have not been touched for a while.

^^^ WHS. Remove small bolts holding drum on, a few taps and it should come off (assuming the handbrake is off )

Course it does, not sure how I missed that. Got one loose castle nut though, split pin snapped too so it needs tightening. Should be fun.

Easier mistake to make if you started on earlier v-dubs. For nut you need 3/4" drive rather than 1/2" drive or chances are socket or socket bar will give. I tend to lend mine out locally.
