Hi,
I'd really appreciate some advice please. I've been respraying the van and have take the doors off for a proper job. For the front doors I managed to get the door handles off and the window seals out. The quarter light window seals which are opening ones were tricky but I managed to pull them out without taking the main window glass away as this allowed me to mask everything off. What I've now realised is that the quarter light seal hooks around a metal frame inside the door and this is attached to the upright that divides the windows. From where I'm looking I can't see a way of getting it back in. Do I put the seal on the metal frame then put the whole lot back into the door? I'm guessing I'll have to take the main window out to move the upright divider back. I'm also working on doors with nice soft fresh paint! I'd guess I'm best to wait until the doors are back on the van before trying?

Another question was when fitting the other new window seals is it an idea to use a lubricant. I don't fancy washing up liquid as its an ionic surfactant so is basically salty water and I believe some synthetic oils degrade rubber.

Have just refitted opening quarter lights and I had to remove the main glass window to enable me to fit them. Was quite easy once the glass was out. The quarter light rubber totally encloses its metal frame so this I think is the only way to go. Unless anyone has another way.
I used glass cleaner as a lubricate when fitting the rubber seals around the other windows, easy from a spray bottle, made it nice and slippy, and evaporated to leave no residue to be rinsed off.

that's great advice thanks. Just to trouble you further, but the reason I hadn't taken the main glass out originally was because I'd followed the Haynes manual for taking it out and basically couldn't get it to budge. If you have nay insight into removing the main window that would be great. If not, thanks anyway,

I too had trouble initially removing the main glass. I thought I had fully read the Haynes chapter and tried and tried! I had unbolted the glass from the winder mechanism but couldn't get it out! A cup of coffee and a re read later it just lifted out exactly as Haynes said it would. If I remember correctly the drivers side, on RHD, rotated anti clockwise and the passengers side rotated clockwise to then lift out. I had all the window rubbers and scrapers removed as I have just finished repainting my van. All new rubbers and scrapers now fitted, looks smart.

as ^^^ says, make sure scrapers are off etc,the glass does sort of come out in a way that doesnt at firsdt make sense, then little screw in top of 1/4 frame and 10mm bolt on bar, they soon come out,
we find the really cheap tesco own brand green glass cleaner is a good lube
