crank pulley nut

Hi guys
hope you can shed some light on my my issue,just about to change my crank pulley on a 1.6 td jx is it ok to just put the van in gear and tighten the pulley nut,or can it cause any problems with the gear box? :oops:

pretty sure it has to be a LOT tighter than that, there is a tool to hold the main pulley while you tighten the toothed one

I have tightened things with putting the vehicle in gear and not doing any damage to the gearbox but If i was you if you dont have a torque wrench or the tool lloydy is on about i would at least give it some shock treatment with a good lump hammer.And if you cant undo it there is a little trick you can do but it is a bit dangerous but it works i have used it just go on youtube and put in how to undo crank bolt.

I used an old flat open ended spanner,drilled 2 holes [to fit the ones in the crank cog] then used a bit of scaffold tube on the spanner!
No strain on the crank,clutch,or gearbox!
Use a new crank bolt!!
