Anyone tried or have an empi twin exhaust? I'm thinking of fitting one to my van to replace the stock silencer

Yep they are poor quality, corrode through at the bends in a couple of years where the already thin tube has thinned. If you still have the early exhaust keep it, it's a nice big expansion box makes the engine much smoother.

In 20 years I've never seen an EMPI last long, at least the boxes don't. Bean cans.

That said, if you have the early exhaust system, you can fit one of these headers and bolt all manner of cans to it:

Good solution if you're on a budget and they do sound great. Opens up the possibility of chrome or even carbon exhausts etc. Thats what I have on mine anyway and it works well, with future cans costing as little as £25 on ebay. I'm always trying to avoid painting myself into a corner when it comes to fitting non-standard parts so I tend to steer towards items that are in plentiful supply and therefore easily and cheaply replaced later on rather than becoming obsolete or horrendously expensive. Stainless is a perfect solution but does come at a price.
