Early Silencer Question

I'm looking at replacing my silencer on an early 1.9 petrol wbx, am I right in thinking that it is held on only by the six bolts from the manifold pipes, 3 on each side?

Just an option. Costs me just £25 if I ever have to fit a new silencer now, and it performs slightly better.

Thanks for the input, yes have seen your very helpful guide CovKid, will probably just go for the standard fix of replacing my silencer as I can reuse my tailpipe and it should be easier for me to complete the job...

The only reason I came up with the Kawasaki mod was I was faced with a rotten tailpipe one year - and equally rusted bolts. After attacking the silencer for ages, it became clear that the only way I could really get to it was to remove the entire thing. This seemed absurd when it was only the tailpipe that had gone. Then with silencer off, it just looked like an over-priced bean can (what are they now - £100+ ?) plus I then needed an exhaust gasket kit.

Went to bed that evening, musing it all. In the morning the solution seemed obvious. :D

Mind you, if the silencer is getting on, it sometimes pays just to weld the tailpipe on

Yes it seems reasonable as a solution and I'm quite tempted to go down that route. My silencer has seen better days and has rusted through where both the manifold pipes attach and plenty of rust around the silencer body. Its been patched up with gumgum to get through the last mot but its in pretty poor condition... :(

Aye. Some don't like this hack since you sometimes have to mod rear apron to get clearance but on the plus side a new silence can cost as little as £25 a go. I always have a spare. In an ideal world, full stainless is the way to go but I've not so far been able to justify it given that one costs more than I paid for the entire vehicle. I'm not a purist if using something else (ie from a scrap pile or other vehicle) brings clear benefits such as cost-saving long term or increases economy/performance. Lets face it, some T25 parts are ridiculously expensive for what they are.
