My girlfriend has recently got herself a t25 , which she has had problems recently starting due to a shot starter battery it's a type 335 / 95ah with a 700 cca the positive is on the left . A quick Internet search for a 800+ cold cranking amps , I've seen plenty right hand positive but can't find a left hand with a 800cca . Just wondering if there is one on the market, ,,

What engine's in the van?

Quick look at a fairly typical online battery site says 019 for a diesel (in the engine bay), 096 for a petrol (under the RH seat). Both have the +ve front/right.


So has somebody been playing silly buggers with your wiring, I wonder...?

It's a 2100 DJ enjine , the plus is on left , I've had it on the battery tester and it shows poor , starts OK , but if it's left standing for a few days I have to jump it . I've noticed the 334 type batteries have a + on the left , would these be fine to use

With the terminals on the edge of the battery nearer you?
Or to the front of the van, and you're looking towards the front of the van, so the terminals are on the far side of the battery?

That image definitely shows the layout of the battery in our DJ - -ve to the outside of the van, but the edge nearer the windscreen, with the wiring coming from the front of the battery box...

Any markings on the battery that's in there now?

It's under the driver seat with positive passenger side facing backwards if that makes sense , I have seen a straight swap , but I wanted just a bit more cold cranking amps , but the only ones I can find on a 335 have the possitve on the opposite side to what I want , but the 334 type are on the right side for me , but unsure if I can use a 334 type

OK - does the wiring come from the front (as mine does)...? If so...

You really shouldn't need it - if anything's holding back the starter, it's almost certainly corrosion and poor joints in the wiring, especially the earth connection to the gearbox - or the starter's nose bush - not the battery capacity.

So there's your answer. Somebody's pulled 'em further out, to fit a battery with the terminals the wrong way round...

If you're having to jump it after standing a few days, you may have a parasitic drain on the battery. The station memory function for the stereo is common. Otherwise read: https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/VW ... ain_cables" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The original battery in a 2.1DJ Petrol powered van was a 065/075 (around 60ah 560CCA) and the orientation is the common pos+ on the right (with terminals closest to you)

You simply do not need all that power, not that there is anything wrong with fitting a heavier duty batter, in fact the one we recommend is a UK TYPE 100 (around 70ah 680CCA)

If you absolutely must have the largest battery available for a VW battery box (lid shut) then a UK Type 110 is what you should be buying. These are usually around 80ah with 700 plus CCA.
Be warned as they are really TIGHT!

What ever you get be aware that it needs to be a 'LOW PROFILE 175mm Battery' and not a standard height (190mm) type....that is if you have a battery box lid you want to fully close.

Dimensions as I recommended on the WIKI are: 310mm wide X 185mm high X 175mm deep (front to back)
I have this Exide Type 110 shoe horned in mine (lid shut) but you can see how tight it is:

Thanks Martin . Will try and pop over soon to the Mrs to have a look , I'm pretty sure there no tray , and the seat will have to be removed ( as it's not a standard one ) for closer inspection

Hmmm....all T25's (T3's) have battery boxes behind the two front seats....the starter battery on petrol engined buses is always behind the offside front seat and the nearside box is often empty but used for a leisure battery when converted to a camper.
You may well have different seats fitted (popular are SAAB seats) but the battery boxes (dropped metal preformed rectangular recess into the chassis) are always there.
