what is the best way to set up carb on t 25 1.6 mine wont idle runs great and idles for first 50,60 mile then just wont idle after that tryed ajusting idle but the screw dont seem to do anything pos. this is petrol air cooled

Perhaps not carb related, could be ignition getting hot and breaking down.

dont think its the ignaction as she starts up alright

The point itchy is making is that ignition components can malfunction once warm but then appear fine after the van has stood long enough for them to cool.

Indeed..... so is the coil getting hot by the time it stalls?

i see what you are saying but when the van stalls say at the lights i can start it up again straight away am looking at doing all the vacum pipes as i found one or two a bit perished ,the other thing i found when i tryed to increase the idle with the idle screw it realy didint do much at all .

When did you last change your fuel filter ?

Well the idle screw is just an air bleed screw.
It just opens the butterfly valve a bit.
If your idle jet is blocked it won't make much difference opening it

Has anyone had the carb off recently? If so, check for inappropriate use of sealant on the rubber base mount. (I'm assuming a standard Solex single carb here on a CT?). There is an idle air channel around the base which will be blocked by using sealant. Seen it happen, and can be a pig to find!
Also, are you adjusting the idle screw (the big one) and/or the mixture screw (the little one under it), or the fast idle screw (top left that rides on the fast idle stepped cam). Just checking...

had a look and yes some one has used selant on the base new gasket me thinks well i will try that anyway, and yes i was adjusting the big screw.cheers for the help will get back to you.

well went back to the carb and cleaned the base put new gasket on and changed all the vacum pipes for new ones starts no probs and ticks over great a wee bit fast may be brought it down as much as i could with the idle screw but did not want to touch the little screw next to it should i and would this bring it down any more.

You need to hook it up to a gas analyser to do that.

ok mate cheers people are sying 900 rpm is alright for it to idle at better fast than slow.
