Yes I've been lucky enough for this to happen to me before I could fit it. Brickwerks say it is nigh on impossible to rectify. Does anybody know of any tips that may help me unwind it before it goes in the bin please?

How long ago did you buy it? Have you e-mailed Brickwerks about returning it?

It was bought a good few months ago now just never fitted it. I could ask them that I suppose.

Yeah. Held it every way possible I think. I was hoping there may be a release mechanism somewhere.

Can't see how it can although not familiar with ones Brickwerks sell. Normally you put the seatbelt reel in the orientation its meant to be and VERY VERY slowly pull it up.

Apparently it's because the belt is so long once it's wound back so far it won't come out. I will keep trying

Sometimes a sharp downwards rap on a block whilst held in the correct orientation will free the catch.

You should keep the unit horizontal so that the belt can go up. Then let it "roll in" for a few (4) inches. Then the lock will be released. keep it horizontal and slow but steady roll out the belt. It is possible that the belt is jammed by the small brace. squeeze and force could help

I agree. I actually sat here with an old belt this evening to replicate your troubles. Basically it winds in so much, theres so much webbing it gets stuck against outer casing. Sure enough - stuck fast. However, I found by keeping belt in correct orientation, I could gently work the whole reel with my fingers so it wound slightly more then I very slowly wound it out enough to create the gap needed to free it entirely. If I had any advice it would be to temporarily mount it to a known absolutely vertical object like a wall or post first, as it makes it easier to do.

I was ready to send it back as Brickwerks said they would try to free it up for me, however, this would have cost me postage both ways. I was getting so stressed with this! I read the last few posts and decided to give it one last crack. I held it horizontal and squeezed the reeled up belt as I pulled it slowly. Bloody result. Thanks again all

No worries. Kinda glad I had a go at creating the problem myself this end. Might help someone else faced with same issue another time. Thanks everyone.

For reference here is where I squeezed/pressed down with my thumb whilst holding the belt upright and pulling up slowly. When the belt is fully rolled up there is a bit if squishyness to it. You can almost feel something slacking off as you press and pull.
