Firstly, if I say I got it from JK, I think I know what the answer is likely to be...

Anyway, My previoust thread about the engine lurching problem I had seems to have (kind of) resolved the problem. I ended up changing the ignition amplifier and coil (the coil was past it's best and the resistance in the outer coil was too high anyway). But now, the engine seems to still be lurching a bit, but in a different way.

Before: It happened all the time, and was rather violent, then it cut out and was a pig to start.
Now: If I keep the van driving at low revs/low speeds, it is perfectly fine. It doesn't miss a beat. And when I dip the clutch there is no cutting out or anything. BUT... If I drive at higher revs/speed, like over 45 in 5th gear, over 35 in third etc. after a few seconds, the engine struggles. Then it lurches, then it cuts out.

I really think my £20 fuel pump may just not be the real deal.

Oh, and once it starts to lurch and give up the ghost, if i let it coast and slow down whilst in gear, it goes back to normal. Am I right in thinking it is a fuel delivery problem now?

Yes fuel supply not up to it. You haven't got one of the silvery round pressure regulators have you? They can't cope with anything as fuel inefficient as a T25.

May not be the pump, could be a blockage also

Pump might not be right one. Sounds like it is not putting through enough fuel..... Not sure what the psi is but someone here should know. I bought one a while back and it was to much psi pressure caused me all sorts of issues.

Go electric, be done with it.

Have you checked the length of your push rod?

I'm decidedly average.... Mine is exactly 100mm long!

Mostly because it was changed when I cahnged the fuel pump. I did remove the pump earlier and pressed the lever with the inl;et pipe on and the pump-carb pipe off, and nothing came out. But when I lowered the pump to fuel tank height, fuel poured out. I definitely think I have a duff pump!

I have no idea how to change to an electric pump... Is it in the wiki?? Looks like I am on a search this evening!

Pipes on right way round on pump? Easily done.

The Facet electric pump is very good - delivers way more than carb needs but better that than hesitation. Few things to do when going electric - new hoses, possibly a relay but it ironed out a whole lot of probs I had.

The pump should deliver good healthy squirts into a jug when you turn the engine over.
Pull off the king lead
Pull off the pump to carb hose
Place jug carefully or get an operative to turn the key.

As covkid says, go electric.

We did, facet low pressure electric pump, tachometric relay, blanking plate. Low cost, reliable and no chance of fuel leaking from mechanical pump diaphragm into the sump oil.

Changed all fuel hoses to CODAN R9, 5.6mm plus a short 7.3mm piece from tank to filter, new filter, proper fuel hose clips (not jubilee clips). Removed old pump and pushrod and fitted blanking plate over the hole.

Electric works very well without any issues so far.
