Strange Leak!

So when it rains overnight I seem to get a puddle of water on the floor In the drivers footwell. Can't see any obvious cause. The windscreen seal looks ok and is never damp. Any ideas?

More than likely it is the seal thats letting the water in , that and rust /rot in the bottom corner of the windscreen. A very common problem .

I've had a bit of a look and that all seems fine. As the evenings are getting lighter I'm getting more time to have a look so hopefully I'll get to the bottom of it soon!

Can you see any staining or rust on the lower edges of the dash top where it sits along side the screen rubber.
Might also be water streaks behind the rubber mats in the foot well .

No but then I haven't had time to strip back the dash yet. Probably get to do it this weekend. Hopefully.

it is usually the windscreen seals but on my Aircooled the leak I had was from the aerial which was mounted on the side.

It will seem fine at first glance. However:

This is a job for Summer months but don't use silicon sealant in an attempt to stop it - it won't work. Wait for warmer weather and if you can't weld, get a mate or mobile welder to do it for you.

Wow! Just read you're wiki. That's a little beyond my expertise! Do you know of anyone who would do it and how much it should cost? I'm usually happy to travel if it means getting someone who knows what they are doing!

Getting windscreen out is easy. Putting it back with a genuine seal is fairly easy. You can drive (legally) without a windscreen to anyone that can weld even reasonably well to do that job. Someone local to you will recommend someone I'm sure. You can always print the WIKI page for reference.

Covkid, you make it sound so easy! Lol. I think I may give it a go. I'll try and find a local welder I can trust and take it from there! I'm going to Dub aid on Saturday so will try and pick up a new seal. Cheer for the advice! Much appreciated.

You might be lucky and not have any holes in the surround . Mine was leaking when I bought her and the metal dash needed replacing due to rust damage. A good clean, new seal and sealant cured it . Fingers crossed for you .

Cheers Dazco. That would be excellent!! I'd be a lot happier if I'd have learnt to weld though. lol. Just in case!

Leaks can come from all sorts of places. Our hightop had leaks around the skylights when we first got it, which led to water tracking through the roof / headlining buildup until it ended up pooling in the passenger footwell. It's not always as straightforward as the windscreen seal.
