Hi there-I'm currently looking at buying my first t25 and one has come up for sale reasonably locally. It is as described in the title and has a 5 speed gearbox-I was wondering if this is the original gearbox or would it have been 4 speed?-forgive my ignorance-I have a lot to learn!! The engine is recon and has apparently done 30k since being installed-any advice would be very gratefully received.

No reason why it couldn't be original, both were fitted originally to petrol models depending on specification.

One thing to note about a T25 5-speed is that they are in a "dog leg" pattern - i.e. first gear, which is a crawler gear, is over to the left and back, 2nd is where 1st would be on a normal gearbox, 3rd where 2nd would be and so on. The 1st to 2nd change takes a bit of getting used to, and many people don't bother with 1st and just drive it like a 4-speed if they can get away with it.

Not trying to put you off, just saving you the surprise when you take it for a test-drive

yep I found it very confusing.... where as my female friend had no problem adapting at all
