Hi there!

Sorry i'm a complete novice and could really use some advice

I have been reading up on the T25 Aircooled heating for the past few weeks as mine doesn't work at all and went to take a look tonight and found that it's practically shot. Rust has eaten away at everything and it's all come apart. Pics below of nearside and offside, the tubes further along have also fallen apart from wear.



Whilst i was under the van i noticed quite a large wet patch under the engine which seems to be coming from the following device, smelt like fuel. I pulled on some of the hoses to see if any were loose at the black hose in the picture below practically fell off. My question is.. what is the device and where does the other end of the black hose go and what does it do? We have planned to use the van in a couple of weeks time but this is worrying me!

That's your fuel pump. One hose goes to the carbs, one comes from the tank and the third is a vent.

Replace the hoses and clips before you have a fire.

im not amazing on petrol engines, but id say thats the fuel pump? and no, i would not drive it with the fuel hoses like that. buy some new ones and fit them before your next journey. otherwise you could have a fire..

all that rusty stuff is just tinware and connecting bits, available 2nd hand and new

Where's the best place to get the hoses/clamps?

Such a joy. A fuel pump with screws. Those were the days, strip it down, replace the internals. Don't suppose you can get refurb kits for them now other than perhaps VW. Oh well.

Definately get that hose changed straight away. Good local motor factors will have better hose than the old cloth braided stuff. Check all the way to tank and replace all the braided stuff (usually at extreme ends).

Tis possible pump leaks in which case you'll probably have to switch to a low pressure electric facet pump - plenty on here on how to do it.

As above ^^^ - I would say you have been lucky to not already had a fire with it like that !
