rear brake cylinder

I have just fitted a new brake cylinder but after pressing and releasing the brake pedal the pistons withdraw away from the brake shoes thus giving me more brake travel. It is the rubber dust covers that are pulling them back. I have disassembled the cyl. and found that there is no spring between the two pistons. Is this normal or should I take it back to GFS.
Hope this makes sense.

I phoned GFS today and they said "we've had this problem before".Apparently there are brazillian and German Cylinders and the Brazillian ones dont have a spring in them but the German ones do. So if you buy some, make sure you get the German cylinders or check to see if there is a spring in them before you leave the shop or you may find that no matter how much you bleed the system and adjust your brakes you will still have too much travel in your brake pedal.
I am going to get mine changed tomorrow and hopefully that will do the job.

Its about time GSF got a grip on some of these 'unfortunate supplies'!
For a company that sells a shedload of automobile parts, you'd really think they'd take a bit more care about what they source, what it's for and how many minutes some of those bits might last... I can only imagine they sacked the last bloke to know anything worth knowing and it's all 'suits' there now.
I do know the staff in their shops are put upon, not allowed to say anything much, and don't have an opinion within the company. And have ridiculous targets that change with the wind so they often give up the struggle to reach them - and when they do take some initiative get shouted down by head office - not that I've been told that mind you!
Shame, another US style nodding donkey company...

I feel sorry for them. My Missus has to put up with the same crap, she works for BT and comes home in some right states.Every call they take is monitored and timed and scrutinised to see if they can shave microseconds from it. Welcome to the 21st Century
