Devon fridge relay to leisure?

The small relay behind driving seat which goes to the fridge which only works when driving can this be modified to charge a leisure battery for my stereo and sub and amp/lights etc?

If so any idea what size would be best to get power and dimension wise?

If any Devon owners have done this could they maybe put pic up etx. If possible that is.

Thank you, marc

Hi Marc

Likely won't need modding. Chances are it is a split charge relay, the type with the "driving only on" fridge terminal as well as a leisure battery terminal. A pic or some numbers off it would help to make sure. Also, wouldn't a Devon would have had a leisure battery fitted usually ? - (note = I've never owned or worked on a Devon)

All the info you need is in the wiki HERE

And all about leisure batteries is in the wiki too HERE

Mind you, my reference to the wiki is not meant like it is on some forums, as in "don't ask about stuff that has been covered before", this is 80-90 and so do come back and ask if you're not sure about owt after reading the wiki stuff :)

Thanks pal, will have a good read of them. Haven't for the van at the moment. But when I do will post some pics when I can.

Well if there is a battery I haven't seen it or it's gone walkies. There is just the main battery under drivers seat . Nothing under passenger side it in any cupboards.

Read through the wiki and got most if my answers and info. Except one thing, as I will be wanting to still use the fridge and charge a leisure do I connect the fridge and leisure to pin 87 on the relay or do i connect the fridge to the battery or would this be the same? And would my fridge loose power and not be as good?

No you will need to replicate what you have for the fridge but instead of the fridge will be the leisure bat.
Basically the circuit is the same but the fridge and the leisure bat must be seperated.

Sorry one more thing, do the smart relays have a pin to run to fridge? So I only have one relay instead of the original and one for leisure. Surely the most simplest of options?

Just buy yourself the correct relay in the first place.

http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/p ... tegory/149" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Look at the diagram in light green and you will see number 4 is the seperate 'out' for the fridge.

Good thing about this relay in it's heavy duty (70 amps on the split charge side) with the additional 20 amp take off for the fridge (most use about 8 amps)

Sorry to resurrect and old three but just about to purchase that relay now. My leisure battery will be in the passenger seat, but not sure what amperage wire to buy and how long. And where is best to put fuse? Marc

So I have sorted out my old fuses, waiting on the relay as suggested above.

Am I right in fusing the light and pump individually? Will post before and after.

As now I am not sure where to route the other end of the wires of the lights and pump on the leisure battery?

Before

After (note I have split the two white and yellow wires to separate fuses as I am sure that the way they are wired here does not look right. but forgot to take a picture)

Any advice much appreciated.

Wow. I've litterally been tinkering with this tonight!!!

I'm a total novice, but I'm a real have go person!!

Can I ask....

If the wiring is all working ok on the Devon, with the little switch saying fridge on, this won't keep the fridge chilled until the ignition is on?

Yeah got to have engine running for it to work. The fridge is triggered by the charge light wire
