Hi everyone. New member here. I bought Hilda yesterday, a 1985 T25. She is our first camper and we love her already. Now this is surprising considering that we had to call the RAC on the way home from collecting her. What a start!

She has a faulty fuel gauge and ran out of diesel. Now it looked like there was plenty of fuel as the needle moved to just over the red, and falls back down when the ignition is off. When we got her home, I filled her up and the needle has moved up accordingly. It not a major problem as I'll just keep filling her up before the needle gets near the red but I was wondering how difficult it would be to fix.

Can you report in to us re how well the temp gauge works ? (as they are connected by a common power supply unit). It should sit roughly in the middle once fully warmed up.

I found out once when i used to run on fools gold that when the needle gets near the red its genuinely empty
not like modern vehicles which give you an early warning

Thankully a kind person took me to a petrol station and back

Fuel guages are also unreliable when the van isnt level best to get a feel for how many miles to a tank and dont go too low

Same happened to me on our first journey now I use my fuel gauge merely as a rough estimate..

Aye, they do vary. We have 2 T25's at present and one of them is the opposite of yours (OP), it will do ~30 miles even after the needle has all but disappeared away to the left.

Sorry to hi jack the thread, I have a similar problem with my fuel gauge but my temp gauge also doesn't ever sit in the middle, It only ever just gets past the grey minimum mark. What's the fault regarding the common power supply unit?

Hi John, quick Q. The wiki isn't clear about the symptoms only the fix, are you saying if the temp gauge doesn't get to the middle then it needs a regulator?
I was about to replace my fuel sender but I admit my temp gauge only gets to about 1/4 unless I sit in traffic for a long time ticking over. I do have a spare regulator on the shelf, worth putting it in? Or if its not broke don't fix it?

If both gauges are reading low (or high) then suspect the regulator. It is easy to check if it is that, you just need to test the output of that regulator, it should be 10 volts (assuming a correct 12.xx volt input). If it is less, change it, though to be honest they normally (but not always) fail with zero output rather than just a low output, but worth checking.
