Exposed the Doka to it's first daylight in over 4 years (was planning to take it for it's MOT) however, it felt like it was struggling to pull away and there was a lot vibration, it just about drove in first gear but was really fighting in second, didn't/couldn't go anywhere so I was just a spin around the block and back home with my tail pipe between my axles!

This is the first time it's run since I've had the front diff and prop off so that is an obvious factor (I think).

How crucial is it to have the two boxes and prop all in-line? (I never checked, I just bolted it all up).

Its all balls. A prop with knackered ujs will do it, due to the wear patterns in the needle races.
Lack of power? Could be anything. Air in diesel injector lines, ignition timing too far retarded for petrol, the list is long.

Same size wheels front and back? Sounds like transmission wind up to me...

You could have seized brakes if it hasn't moved in 4 years.

Thanks fellas; good call on the timing - school boy error,I wrongly assumed the V notch in the C-shaft pulley was TDC After some brief consultation with Mr Haynes realized it's the actual timing mark (5deg DTDC) - DOH!

I haven't checked the UJs (yet), I bet they don't have grease nipples on them like my trusty Thwaites dumper!

Is it possible to inspect the UJs or is it a case of commit and strip down and replace regardless?

Put hand in pocket and purchase nice new rebuildable prop from Baxter's emporium. OEM prop ujs are staked in (no circlips) so not really refurb'able.

that's just the 1.9 petrol donutless prop

but exchange prop is the way to go ime

Adjusted the timing and took her for another spin around the block.

The engine purrs a bit better, but it's still struggling to pull away and I have to rev it high to go from 1st to 2nd (it almost feels like I'm putting it into 3rd) it does that angry knocking until the engine has enough speed. I haven't even tried going from 2nd to 3rd.

Bearing in mind the Gearboxes/VC/Clutch/everything haven't been used for years, could there be any issues with these standing still for long periods? What is 'wind up'?

Take the prop off, and drive it as a 2 wd , its only 8 bolts and will help to isolate the problem, also check that the rear shoes aren't over adjusted, and acting as a handbrake. I would push it along on a level yard the old fashioned way , you should be just able to move it on you own 12 or 15 feet. we await your findings!

Have you checked the back brakes to see if they are seized?

Good pointers, I'll check the back brakes I was quite keen with the adjusters when I refitted them. They shouldn't be seized as they were stripped and serviced.

Regarding the prop, they may have to wait until the weekend.

Hopefully you havn't used new unmeasured bolts for the front inner driveshafts?

A bit of an update...

Took the prop off and this made no difference to the performance/vibrations
Front and rear brakes are free (they got stripped and re-built), however, i'm getting pulsing which is another issue I need to investigate.
New HT leads, checked air filter for any blockages.
I am starting to wonder if the new fuel pump sourced from fleabay is a potential culprit?

My earlier post about vibration was a bit of scare mongering from me, when I change from 1st to 2nd, the engine vibrates and as it struggles to gain enough torque due to the lack of power, UJs felt ok (no play) when it was off.

I may check the timing curves to see if the vacuum advance is ok.

It does feel like a serious timing problem (not when idling) or lack of fuel, do any of you have a working genuine fuel pump I could borow/buy?

I think I'll also test the injectors just in case one of these is playing up too.

Any more pointers much appreciated.
